Please read the update at the bottom as well.
I've had it for about two weeks and I have to say that I am impressed with it.
Great design. Performance is hampered only by the overweight XP Home which can be slimmed down and optimized. I highly suggest going through the services and shutting down those that you do not use (for example, the service for burning CDs is useless on this machine).
Bootup is quick (again, after some OS tweaks). Applications like Word launch quickly, and if you know how to use Virtual Clone Drive or Daemon Tools, not having a built-in drive is actually a highlight!
I've used it to watch movies without so much as a hiccup.
At full charge, the battery will last you about 3.5 hours under conservative usage. What you do with it goes a long way toward determining your battery life anyway.
Now comes the negatives.
Only option to connect a monitor or TV is VGA (analog). Forget about outputting this to a HDTV. Is it REALLY that expensive to give us a DVI output option? I realize this is a just a netbook, but DVI out should be a minimum standard today.
A lot of startup applications which hurt performance. Just delete them. I appreciate the antivirus and Office Suite TRIALS (30-day), but the rest of it is garbage.
Update: After having it several months, I would have to reduce the overall rating to 3 stars. While attempting to host a webcam over my LAN, I noticed that the webcam (crystal eye) gets extremely poor frame rates. There are no superfluous processes running and even if you turn down the resolution of the cam the frame rates are still poor. Oh, and I am not talking about a poor refresh rate over the LAN, I am talking about on the netbook itself! Motion blurr...
Because there are plenty of system resources available (RAM and processor), my thinking is that this is the result of a very slow system bus. Either way, a disappointment because a webcam is very much within the realm of what a netbook should excel at.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.
