I ordered the Acer Aspire One netbook to be a birthday gift based on its specs and styling. When my wife opened it, it did indeed have all the style that one could want
But, minor detail for a netbook, it couldn't access the Internet -- either through a wireless router or through an Ethernet cable. Eight hours of trying to get it to work made no difference -- that include several fruitless calls with tech support.
Finally, in desperation, I did the obvious Google search "Acer Aspire One wireless problems" and found I was not alone. Lots of people have trouble with Aspire One wireless connectivity. Lots of opinions about what to do -- some of them sometimes actually worked for some people for some unpredictable period of time. But why would I want to buy a brand new netbook and then spend days randomly (and with my cynical fingers crossed) configuring drivers, downloading drivers, and replacing wireless cards?
A quick trip to Best Buy and I returned with a brand new HP netbook. Walked in the door, turned it on, and in 30 seconds was reading the NY Times online.
