I purchased this about 3 months ago. I've been very pleased with it. I bought it mostly to use when traveling but I occasionally use it around the house since it is so portable.
The screen is excellent. Very crisp and clear. Much better than my 15" Dell.
I've taken it to many, many locations and have never had a problem getting on to the various wireless networks. It immediately finds the network.
Battery - I purposely waited to purchase the 6 cell to get a longer life. It generally gets 3 - 4 hours. For some reason I was expecting closer to five hours. The battery indicator seems off at times. It fluctuates often when in use. The six cell battery does add a little extra weight to the machine. I've thought about buying a 3 cell for a spare to use when I know I won't need to be on the netbook for long.
Noise - have never noticed any fan noise.
Touchpad - it's okay. I'm not a huge fan of touchpads. I have a mini-mouse designed for laptops. I tend to use that if I'm going to be on for a while and/or I'm at a table or desk.
Video camera - it appears to have a built-in video camera but no software to operate it. I haven't gotten around to seeing if I can download a driver somewhere.
Speakers - these suck! Even when I have the speakers up to the highest volume and there is no noise in the room, I can barely hear anything. Sometimes it is worse than others- depending upon the source of the video. I have found using earphones helps a little.
Lack of CD drive - this is a little more inconvenient than I thought it would be. There really is no way to install software on the Aspire without either downloading from somewhere or connecting this into a home network and downloading it that way. Since I don't have a home network, I'm probably going to have to purchase a portable cd/dvd drive for about $100.
Lastly, this thing fits perfectly in the totes made for portable DVD players.
Edited to add: I was frustrated about the battery life so I decided to do an experiment. I was going by the power meter that is on my toolbar and it was showing the battery decreasing quickly. So naturally I would recharge it when it got low.
This time I took a timer and left it running while I was using my Aspire. The power meter is definitely off. I'm please to say it gets at least 5 hours of browsing time and more than that if you close the lid (without turning it off) when you aren't using it.
