I bought this netbook for one reason only -- I wanted to surf from the couch or the kitchen. My main laptop is a gaming rig, so it's not really as portable as a normal laptop. I decided on the Acer Aspire One because of its great reviews, excellent technical specs (see above), and good price. I chose to buy with XP pre-installed rather than Linux because, honestly, if I'm surfin' on the couch sometimes it's fun to also play a flash game or two. Based on what I wanted, this netbook delivered 100%.
There are a lot of other, better reviews already posted here that will give you the blow-by-blow performance examples. Read through them carefully and you'll have a good idea of what to expect. My experience has taught me to not try to do any "serious" multi-tasking (i.e. running multiple Office programs), especially while McAfee is running. But I can have 6 Firefox tabs open and Diner Dash won't skip a beat. I can also have it in the kitchen streaming "The Young and the Restless" from cbs.com while I'm cooking and there are no blips.
Size-wise, it is very light and portable. I can slip it into my messenger bag and it takes up no more room/weight than a hardcover book.
