After borrowing my friend's Acer Aspire One over and over, I knew that I had to have this machine! Just before I purchased my own Acer Aspire One, I spent several days researching this. And after reading the Amazon reviews, I bought my own Acer Aspire One! After using this machine for about 9 days, I can honestly say so far that it is amazing, and now I don't have to lug my heavier and bulkier 15.4 laptop around which only has 2 hours of battery life on Vista--my Acer Aspire one has just over 6 hours of battery life with the 6 cell battery. This is the main reason I bought this machine!
PROS:
1) Boots within 20 seconds (and I am using the installed Windows XP operating system).
2) Easy to setup Wi-Fi Internet. We have wireless in the home and as soon as I started this computer it search and found the wireless in about 45 seconds! And since the internet has been connected to my Acer, it has been very fast and extremely stable EVERY TIME I has used it on my Acer!
3) Quiet (both the hard disk and the fan). Some previous reviewers said the fan was noisy, however, this is a newer model and believe that Acer fixed the fan problem.
4) Keys are quiet and I found for a mini computer, the keyboard is quite easy for me type on. (I am a woman and a small person, however, my friend (a large fellow) has no problem typing on his Acer One and was so glad to get it back!
5) Battery Life with the 6 cell battery: I have tried this several times and I have gotten on this machine with XP, 6 hours total (sometimes 6 1/2 hours on XP, but I just keep one thing at a time open to conserve battery life). And this is using the Internet most of the 6 hours).
6) The Windows XP operating system is fast and I am glad it is on this machine as it is easier to load and does not take up much memory on this machine.
7) Lightweight (just 2 pounds) and so so portable, can easily pack or take this machine from room to room--anytime, anywhere!
8) PORTABILITY/WEIGHT: Weighs just pounds, so easy to tote around. The smaller size of this machine is a plus (and one of the main reasons for purchasing it) because I can place this inside my Case Logic sleeve inside my tote purse or briefcase and still have room for other things. Glad that I bought this size over any of the other machines because it is truly SUPER PORTABLE!
9) HUGE hard drive for this sized machine. Mine came with 160 gig hard drive--lots of room for storage!
10) STAYS RELATIVELY COOL: I have used this machine everyday and everywhere inside and out and in every room. It gets slightly warm, but never hot--even after I have been Interneting and typing for several hours at a time.
11) Best reason to buy this--over 6 hours of battery life! No more lugging the heavier 15.4 laptop around! (Last time I used this machine using the battery, I got 6.5 hours of battery life using XP)!
CONS (and a fixable con): (Only one that I could find)
1) No internal CD/DVD Drive. This was easy to fix, I simply ordered an external CD/DVD drive online for just $60 + shipping. This is a must for installing software to the hard drive or copying data files, pictures, etc from the hard drive to a CD. (I even watched a DVD movie with this drive on my Acer with no problem).
***Suggestions: In addition to needing an external CD/DVD drive (or you could just rely on flash drives), a protective padded sleeve for this machine is a must or a mini laptop case. I ordered a protective Case Logic Sleeve from Amazon and placed my Acer inside. The outside pocket fits my mini mouse, small mousepad and flash drives just perfectly! And I place my Acer inside the sleeve and just place in my briefcase and off I go! So for the 9 or so days that I have owned this machine, I am just delighted!
