Order Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

Acer aspire one 6cell 160GB
for about 2 month i use the acer netbook (XP, 160GB, 1MB RAM), 6 cell battery) as my main laptop at home - basically web browsing and email. the screen is great but i noticed that some of my VB programs don't run in the default screen (1024x600) - need to change to standard resolution of 1024x768. anyway for me a minor anoyance.
i can use this laptop in bright light (sunlight from the back through the window) where my old sony vaio 505ec is not usable. yes you need to adjust the screen angle and viewing angle to avoid severe reflections but it works.
it would be nice if the screen brightness could be reduced even further.

more critical was the immediate installation of AA1fanControl. this little freeware allows to control the turning on off the fan (which is quite noisy - like most fans). i guess this should be the first activity of any new acer owner. without this program the fan is basically always on which is very annoying in a quiet environment.

second change that seem to work well is disabling the paging file completey. this makes my acer definitely snappier and reduces the usage of the disk drive.
battery life seems to live up to its promise and i get around 5 hours of usage.

so overall this is a great little netbook and i keep on thinking how stupid steve jobs' remark was when he said (approx. quote): "We (Apple) have not figured out how to build a laptop below $500 that is not a piece of junk"

I highly recommend it.
