Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Get it now!

Acer Aspire One 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black
I have had this little wunder for a little over a week and used it everyday. I also have a desktop and a 15.4 laptop. I take this Acer to work everyday it is so handy. It does everything my big laptop does. It shuts down and starts amazingly fast.

When I first received it I removed the trial of Office and installed my own copy. I installed Roxio, Nero and ACDSee. I left McAfee installed temporarily to see how well it works. It seems to do fine but they want too much money for it and I plan on replacing it with something free. I installed about everything that I have on my big laptop. I try to keep whatever I can from auto starting. The 1 gig of Ram seems to be working fine no matter what I use the computer for.

I should mention I also purchased a LaCie external USB CD/DVD writer. I got lucky and found one that worked with one USB cable connected to the computer without the need of the power cable or 2nd USB cable. I have been using the writer to make backup copies of some DVD's. I really was surprised to see this little Netbook handle that. I monitor my CPU usage and it never gets out of line. I had no prior experience with the Atom processor. I watch movies played from the hard drive and the DVD drive and the video is very smooth. I do suggest a set of ear phones due to the small speakers the sound is just so-so.

The keyboard was easy for me to get used to. I am a 2 finger typer and all keyboards are about the same to me. I have used the touchpad and it works fine. It has an up/down scroll function and 2 buttons. Pretty much like my HP. I carry a mouse with me and use it when I am at a desk.

The screen is very sharp and bright. This is my 1st LED lit screen. I do find myself using F11 a lot to maximize my browser. But I am fine with that. The print and graphics are very good. This is not a screen I would want to spend 8 hours a day looking at. This after all is a Netbook or as I call it a Mini Laptop. I found out when I installed the Roxio Suite that it won't allow me to use the photo viewing and editing part of the suite due to the screen resolution. I want to keep the default resolution so I use either Nero or ACDsee for my photos.

The wireless was very easy to set up and it works just fine. I use it on my home and work network. I wish it was "N" compatible but I use "G" for now anyway.

I can't comment on the battery life because I haven't given it a good test. I am glad that I got the 6 cell model though after reading other reviews. The big battery looks just fine and kind of flows into the rest of the design of the case.

I guess you could say I love this thing. I use it like a full size laptop. I did not expect to be able to do that. If you want portability and usability in one package this is it. I have already recommended it to friends.

UPDATE (Jan 2): After using this Netbook for about 30 days I had to return it to Acer for service. I had used it almost everyday. One night I put it into hibernate. The next night I turned it on and it would not boot. The screen stays totally black. The fan starts but the hard drive light never flickers. I tried to boot from a Windows XP installation disk and from my Norton Ghost bootable disk for my backup. The power connection is good. I tried everything Acer suggested and that I know to do.

I am now waiting to see what happens next. I Fedex'd it Jan. 2nd. I want it back. I really do love this laptop. I already miss it. I did buy an extended warranty.

UPDATE (Jan 9) I received my computer back today. It seems to be working fine. The repair slip that came back with it says they updated the BIOS. Of course there is no explination of what might of caused this problem. At least all my files are still there which is nice. I guess I might think twice about using hibernation on XP since that was the last thing I did when it quit working.

I'm just glad to get this back. It is the handiest computer I've ever had. I still like it and would buy another one if I lost this one.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.
