Low Price Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

Buy it, right now...don't even bother reading this review.
But just in case you don't believe me, I'm typing this review on my THIRD Acer Aspire One laptop. The first one was mine, then the larger battery model came out so I bought the larger battery model and my wife inherited mine. Then the pink model came out, so my wife got the pink model and my brother inherited her Aspire. So we are a 3 Aspire family.
Here's the complaints I've read in other reviews and I'll address them all.
First, the screen is too small. I too thought an 8.9 inch screen would be too small. But you can adjust font sizes in the Control Panel Display settings and that takes care of 90% of the problems. On the web sites where they use 10 point, then they might a bit small. But with my normal reading glasses, I can see the type just fine. In fact, my Aspire One laptop resides on the bottom shelf of the coffee table and whenever friends come over, they can choose between my desktop 22 inch monitor, a Fujitsu 14.1 inch screen (which is also in the living room) or the Acer Aspire. Which one do they choose???? The Acer every time.

Next, the keyboard is too small. Well, I don't seem to have any problems with it. Granted, I am not a professional touch typist, but I'm not a one finger typer either. And my hands and fingertips would be described as bigger than average (6 ft. and 230 pounds.) Do I hit the wrong keys???? Yes, once in a while, but not so much as keyboard design as trying to hurry. The main key I mis-hit is the Caps Lock when I mean to use the Shift key. I guess I could learn to use the other Shift key, but I don't

Next, it's slow. WRONG. The 1.6 Ghz processor allows me to run Quicken 2008 and Office 2007 without any appreciable delay. I doubt it would run a NASA CAD program, but for everday use, you will not notice any difference over a faster processor that may not be as efficient as the Atom processor.
The battery life is too short. Well, then, buy the 6 cell battery which I did with 2 of my 3 Aspires. The 6 cell battery package also comes with an added bonus - a larger hard drive, 120GB vs 160GB.
The only negative I can't answer is that it does not have an internal drive. It has 3 USB ports, Lan port (but no phone jack for dial up) headset and microphone jacks (in addition to the built in microphone and web cam - great for Skyping), it has a dedicated SD card reader to view your digital pictures and a multi-card reader on the other side to view other formats, BUT, it has no DVD built in. You know something??? I didn't spend $350 to have a portable DVD player. You can buy a portable DVD player at Wal-Mart for $49. And did I mention the built in Web Cam and microphone? It's absolutely perfect for Skyping when I'm overseas. Works Perfect.
Lastly, the touchpad is a screwy design. The shift and shift-click buttons are on the side of the touchpad as opposed to being in the normal bottom position. But you learn to adapt and I've found them to be no major problem. Each hand held mouse is different isn't it? And you seem to learn to use them okay...you just adapt, no big deal.

So, be sure to order the 6 cell battery variety with the larger hard drive and do it now. These things are so popular, the local Fry's Electronics store can't keep them in stock and has upped their price by $100 to $449 for the smaller battery and smaller hard drive. And one last thing....don't be lured by the cheaper Linux model, but the Windows XP version and you'll love it.
Your Welcome.
