Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Immediately

I purchased this product from Electronica Direct, here on Amazon. Please be aware, they have a 15 day policy on this Laptop and they will not exchange it. Overall, I was very disappointed, I work from home and normally buy top of the line PC's, therefore once I recieved this Lap-top it was clear why the price was so low. I would recommend perhaps HP, which carries a small PC like this one. I would by All means NOT RECOMMEND ELETRONICA DIRECT, they do not answer emails promptly and they will not exchange your product if you are over 15 days.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Best Quality

I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the fit and finish of this $400 mini laptop. It worked right out of the box. However I was used to having more space and more speed and so made the leap to upgrade the memory to a total of 1.5 GB RAM (replaced the 512 MB module with a Kingston 1GB PC2 4200, $14.99 at newegg), and the hard drive to a 500 GB Western Digital Scorpio WD5000BEVT ($139.99 at newegg). Much faster. I use Microsoft Office 2007 and Adobe Acrobat Standard edition with really large files.

This upgrade is not for the faint of heart. It requires taking apart the computer and unscrewing and lifting the motherboard. The most difficult part was taking off the keyboard. Fortunately there are a number of posted instructions and youtube videos showing you how to do this [..]There is an on-line forum that is helpful: [..]

I would have gladly paid twice the price for this machine.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

I was looking for a substitute for my Lenovo Thinkpad X60 because I use my desktop for gaming, and I like to surf the web and email/IM on a laptop while I'm watching TV, and the Acer Aspire One ended up being an amazing purchase! The entire netbook is high quality from the piano gloss finish to the case to the incredibly bright and vibrant LCD screen. The keys feel nice and tactile, they don't feel cheap at all. Once you adjust the touch pad more on the light touch side it works effortlessly and everything on Windows XP runs zippy with a gig of ram and the new Intel Atom processor. So far I cant even tell the difference between this and the Thinkpad besides the obvious size difference. The 6 cell battery is definitely worth the extra $50, you won't be disappointed. Fan noise is not as bad as I've read in other reviews, there's nothing negative I can think about this product. Was a great laptop replacement!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

The Acer Aspire One has transformed my image of Acer. One of the main reasons I purchased it was because of the many satisfied reviewers here and elsewhere. I haven't seen that many endorsements in a long time. There are other netbooks that have larger screens, bigger keyboards, etc., but this product has been tested by so many people, and the consensus of opinion is clear: it is an outstanding product. There was little wonder when I finally received it that it turned out to be even better than I had anticipated (as others have expressed). I have been watching netbooks from the time they came out of the gate, and the combination (du jour) of XP, 160Gig HD, 1Gig RAM, 6 cell battery, and last but not at all least - Acer design sold me on this product. I had tried it out at a local store before purchasing it from Amazon but, it wasn't until I finally received it (two days ago) that I realized that, in it's own right, it is a technical masterpiece of engineering. For those who like things in small packages, this is a true dream machine. Highly recommended! Everything else has already been said.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Decide Now

I looked at all of the various netbooks and the reviews for the 6 cell Acer Aspire One were so good, that is what I got. All of the reviewers that gave it a 5 star review, were right on!

The build quality is excellent. The keyboard is the best (and I tried out a few other brands in the big box stores before buying) and the display is very good. XP is a big plus! I have yet to talk to anyone who likes their laptops with Vista on them. Never! Not one! So XP really pushed me to the Acer netbook versus a normal laptop.

I love showing it off -- everyone is impressed. I think Amazon should give me a commission: So far, a coworker has gotten one; my sister just bought one; my neighbor is planning on getting THREE for Christmas -- one for himself (he travels a lot) and one for each of his two kids (who are college students).

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Right now

This is exactly what I was looking for -- a small, lightweight computer that is easy to bring along while having enough power to actually get work done. The 6 cell battery gives it decent battery life. The unit is a well designed and well built. Great fit and finish! Note that this model is about an inch wider than a competitor's 8.9 inch model (you can see the difference by looking at pictures of the screen and the border around it). The extra width allows for a larger keyboard -- big difference when typing. The listed weight of the two models is the same at 2.2 pounds.

If your looking for a high powered machine forget about these mini laptops, that is not their strength. But if you're looking for a lightweight, highly portable machine for things like email and net surfing, light word processing, and Powerpoint presentations then I recommend this one. Lowest Price Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

I travel every week by air, so I was looking for the smallest, lightest notebook available with windows XP. The Acer One fits the bill. I went from a bulky roller bag for my laptop (mobile office)to a over the shoulder bag that I can put anywere. The laptop worked fine out of the box. It took me a few days to transfer all my files and applications from my old laptop and work out the bugs. I had to buy an external cd rom drive to load some apps, other than that, no issues. When I;m home at my desk I use an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. The Acer has a limmited screen resolution, so I can only utilize 75% of my 20" monitor. The battery upgrade to 6 cell is well worth the few extra bucks. All in all for [...] bucks it's a great laptop so far (3 weeks).Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

So far this little guy has performed very well. It's battery power is a very definite plus, lasting for well over 5 hours on a singe charge, great for airplane trips. It loads my photos through the USB port much, much faster than my HP desktop. I loaded Photo Suite but found that the screen resolution can not be made high enough for this software to work but since I also own Adobe Elements, I loaded it and it works great. Save Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

Like a strange cross between the standard laptop and an iPhone, the 'Aspire One' is perfect for the student or someone who travels extensively. It measures (outside) only 7" X 10" X 1" thick and weighs 2 pounds. It has a much nicer screen quality than my previous 'Eee PC' and starts up faster than my Acer desktop which has Windows Vista. 'Aspire One' has Windows XP, for you that like the XP over Vista!

As expected, the keyboard is a real squish for large hands, but the keypads are sensitive enough and the mouse pad works perfectly. Unfortunately there is no disc drive, but there is capability to hook up an external drive, if necessary. The USB ports also allow you to add Memory sticks for lots of additional memory. The 'Aspire One' also has a very good Wireless LAN communicator. Its powerful enough to boot up in less than 15 seconds, has a 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor, 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive. The powerful 6-cell battery will give you over five hours of battery life (under normal usage conditions).

For fun stuff, the 'Aspire One' contains a Webcam built in (perfectly adequate), a multi-compatible card reader, 3 USB ports, built-in email, basic web browsing, and numerous digital media applications. It also has stereo speakers, earplug/headphone and microphone jacks. Don't forget about the Ethernet port for non-Wireless!

This really does make the perfect companion for the student or world traveler with its amazingly compact size and its surprising power. The conveniences are all here, plus, it has Windows XP, which I feel is FAR superior to Vista for speed.

I read all the reviews and looked at the unit at Costco first hand before pulling the trigger on this for my wife and mother-in-law. Both needed a small light internet machine to remote log-in into work. However, the work issed laptops didn't fill the bill and the ones that do were cost prohibitive. The Aspire One performs as advertised and is solidly built for the road. Processing speed is not really an issue. Just don't do photoshop or heavy multimedia work. Touch typing is easy after a short adjustment time. Battery life is good with the 6 cell versus the ones at Costco (3 cell). Order Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

I went with four stars on this, but it would have been 4.5 if the option availed itself. In other words, I just had to put this slightly below perfect in order to be completely honest about my experience.

Let's talk about the perfection first: no fan noise on mine, great wireless reception, sharp screen, solid build, and great battery life. Even the little things, like a nice, long power cord really help out. Disk space is probably the most fun and impressive thing I have found so far.

That's just the start of why this little item is so wonderful. I have gone through several laptops and PDAs in my time. The laptops compromised on size (sometimes still to big), battery life, and price, while the PDAs compromised on size (sometimes still too small) and functionality. I have used the Aspire One for two weeks now, at home, in the car, and at my in-law's house, and I can say it is a great balance. This is real Windows XP. No pared down operating system, no incompatible file types, no shortage of software, no non-standard storage or networking. It's a Windows computer in all senses of functionality, storage, and networking. It gets that right. It absolutely nails it for the first time in my computing experience.

Speed-wise it is about 40% as fast as my desktop here at work, a Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz machine. That is for pure CPU, I used a PI-generating benchmark to test. The standard 1 GB memory included appears to work fine. I kept OpenOffice, iTunes, and several Firefox windows open all weekend, and the machine handled it all well including hibernating. Boot times are amazing, about a minute for a full restart, less for a boot-up from a power-down situation. It all "just works" on that front. And incidentally, it didn't have much "crapware" at all from the start, which I really admire. I uninstalled McAfee and the Office trial, and that was about it. I was expecting to have to spend a whole evening uninstalling things and checking startup routines, but that all took just 30-40 minutues, including reboots.

So why not 5 stars? Simple ergonomics. The screen is small and the keyboard is small. I make more typos, and my eyes hurt after moderate use if I am not more careful to stare out and apply good optical ergonomics. Before you say, "duh, you knew what you were getting," you have to understand that 4 stars is a GREAT review. But if I am honest with myself about how long I could really sit down and work on this for something "real" like writing a novel or editing several web pages, it is not a perfect experience, not five stars.

However, here are things where the ergonomics matter less, and I would give five stars for these specific experiences with the Aspire One:

-- Casual web browsing. This thing is a fully functional, take-anywhere web kiosk with great battery life and plenty of disk space for downloads, etc.
-- Watching movies/videos. No, it doesn't have a DVD drive, but if you are sharing a video on a network or rip a DVD down to it from a shared DVD player (PLENTY of disk space, I love that!), you have yourself a wonderful little movie-watching machine.
-- Listening to music. Share that iTunes library or just copy files over and listen to your heart's content. The sound via headphones is quite acceptable. Again, the ample disk space is fantastic, and I was able to listen to music while writing and browsing without any hitches. NOTE: For wireless and cordless listening, you may want to turn off the power saving on the wireless network card in the advanced network settings. I got skips when trying to play from a shared iTunes library over the air before I did that, your mileage may vary.
-- Simply Sharing Life. Since you can easily transfer files to and from this little beauty, it is great for traveling with files, pictures, music, or videos. And the long battery life makes it easy to share and share long. The portability is great, and the fact that we are talking about full-blown Windows XP does away with any incompatibility issues you may have had with previous PDAs, cell phones, etc.

In summary, this is a solid 4.5 star device whose only drawback is the size you already knew you were in for. Keep those eyes healthy and stay relaxed while typing, and even that may not be an issue for you (hence all the five-star ratings here). The price is right, the disk space is ample, and the battery life is fantastic, all in a standard-OS gem.

Highly recommended.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Where To Buy Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

I purchased this about a month ago and I couldn't be happier!

The pros: super portable, great wireless connectivity, fast, lightweight, keyboard is very easy to type on (doesn't feel like I'm typing on a mini computer), has a slot for camera cards (SD & xD), lots of hard drive space, 3 USB ports, great battery life (4 hours)

The cons: screen size really small when you want to view pictures/movies, no CD/DVD drive, speakers not that great (but you can buy inexpensive speakers that plug in & sound great)

I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for an inxpensive laptop with great performance to carry to class, work, travel. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Shop For Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

I bought this expecting it to be more of a toy than a computer. It's a computer. The 1.5 gig of ram is a little small, the touch pad is not my favorite, and the typing can sometimes be cramped, but these are fairly minor annoyances. Add a small wireless mouse and it is near perfect. I put all of my photos on it and the quality of the display is far better than I expected, and every bit as good as my $1200 hp. It runs XP, so it's faster as well. Before I even upacked it I had our tech guy at the office remove all but the stuff I really use, so that may have helped. I am as amazed and impressed with this compact and very usable $400 computer as I was disappointed and angry with the 13.3" hp I bought last year. The hp runs Vista, but that is no excuse, no computer should be sold with Vista.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White This instant

I've had mine now for a couple weeks and I'm loving it. So many things to like about this computer:

Screen- I compared this to other netbooks, including Asus, HP and Dell, and this Aspire has got by far the brightest, crispest screen. I'm utterly amazed that Acer built this with LED backlighting (vs. traditional fluorescent lamps). Most desktop LED monitors are still selling for upwards of $1K.

It makes a huge difference. Super bright, very clear and best of all, LEDs last forever (for all practical purposes); certainly far longer than lamps.

Chassis- Surprisingly strong. No flex anywhere, feels good and solid. The glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet, but it sure looks sharp.

CPU- The 1.6Ghz Intel CPU is surprisingly powerful. I've installed and run Half-Life (the original) and, amazingly, even World of Warcraft (with both new expansions). Keep all quality settings at minimum and it's playable. The screen's too small to be practical for Photoshop, but the CPU can handle it just fine.

Keyboard- Again, a surprise. As notebook keyboards go, it feels pretty good. ESC and function keys are a little tiny, but doable.

Trackpad- Very sensitive and usable. I've heard complaints about the odd placement of the buttons on the sides of the pad, which is indeed awkward, but with the pad's tap-to-click functionality and the properties key (opposite the Windows key), I literally never use either pad button.

Ports- Three USB ports is great, and of course you can increase this with hubs if you want more. The single card reader that supports many formats is excellent. The VGA connector is good. DVI would have been better, and I've heard a rumor that Acer will be adding this to their next generation, but this is plenty for a netbook like this. More than I would expect. The system even supports dual monitors with this port, up to a resolution of 1600 x 1200 for the second screen (in 32-bit color), possibly higher.

Speakers- Nothing to write home about, no different than any other laptop. What can you expect from speakers the size of a dime? Just add externals or use headphones and it sounds great.

Hard Disk- NICE BONUS: We've bought three of these Aspires so far -- the 120gb / 3-cell models -- and EACH of them has come with a 160gb drive. Not sure what's up with this, but it's sure a nice surprise to actually get MORE than what I paid for. OEM drives are so cheap now that Acer must have just scrapped the 120s and silently started putting 160s in all units. (The drive reads as 149gb; wipe out the hidden recovery partition to recover about 5gb more.)

Software- This is the best part -- it runs XP! The relatively lower power of netbooks like this is a blessing in disguise. It's keeps you away from the toxic Windows Vista.

It comes with XP Home, but with an external CD-ROM drive and your disc of XP Pro, you can easily wipe out Home and install Pro. (Which I recommend; gets rid of all the junkware that's preinstalled and makes things nice and clean. Best yet, Acer provides all the drivers you need to make your Pro version run perfectly.)

Battery- This is the only blemish on this system. The 3-cell battery advertises 2.5 hours runtime under IDEAL conditions, which none of us are likely to experience. With WiFi and web browsing or game playing, it's more like an hour.

Workable for quick trips to the coffee shop, but keep the adapter handy at home and you'll be fine.

I very highly recommend this system, you won't be disappointed.

I had loved this computer. I was trying to prepare a review, but I was waiting until I found at least one thing wrong with the unit. I finally found it: It died after about 2 weeks of mild use. Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Best Quality

I am happy with my aa1 and I would buy it again for myself or as a gift. Other reviews complained about the fan but I just hardly hear it. I got the white aa1 and I love the color. It is much nicer than the blue one which I saw in a store. No fingerprints here at all. The screen is crisp and bright. I did make the fonts a bit bigger but other than that I can see everything just fine. I Auto hide the task bar to see certain popups so I can see the "i accept buttons" You can't adjust the size in some of those.
It is fully booted in less than a minute.
The video card isn't great but can handle Second Life game pretty well so if it is games you want to play check the requirements for the game.
I was able to copy one of my program cds onto a large flash drive and it auto loaded the program as if I had used a cd. I might buy an external cdrom in the future though.
It is small enough to fit in my regular purse and sturdy enough to hand it. I did however buy a dvd player case made by Targus that fits it like a glove and holds all the cords and usb flash drives I need as well as all the manuals and paper work it came with.
I have only had a connect problem a few times so it doesn't bother me I restart and it fixes itself so I wonder if it my wireless hub. The keyboard is a bit cramped but I have small hands. This would be perfect for a young person.
I love it. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Get it now!

i am looking for a portable unit for my Honey as a Xmas gift ... and by comparison to other units available, i find this one to be outstanding ... I am about to place the order momentarily.
it is to be noted that it is a Portable Unit of smaller dimensions compared to the regular Notebooks, of which I have 3 already (HP, Dell & Sony), yet the capacity is superior to any of the units I already possess in terms of Physical storage Memory.

when I was going through the reviews posted, I note a few points that I think needed addressing, as an IT Specialist.

General Configuration :
when you are buying a NETBOOK, there is one thing to take into consideration. This machine is intended for light duty work, such as online Surfing, Email and IM, as well as Document processing (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). it can be used for Audio and Video PlayBack as well. even thou the screen is a bit small for that, it is still acceptable for shorter duration. the configuration does not provide the horsepower to be able to be used for Heavy Resource Hungry applications such as multimedia production and the like. it is not intended to for that kind of tasks in the first place. if that's what you need, a NETBOOK is NOT the best of options. I suggest that you look into a Desktop or Top Line Laptop for that requirement.

Software Configuration :

a. Operating System : the unit ships with Windows XP, which especially for portable units with limited resources, is superior to the Windows Vista, though being a former release. My Desktop as well as my HP and Dell Laptop runs on Windows XP, which I, by personal experience, feel more comfortable with, i have Windows Vista on my Sony Laptop, which although being a fine product (No Offence) just is not "My cup of tea" if you know the expression. Windows Vista may have its benefits, but the thing that I dislike about it is the 'File management' ie the way it organises the Users Documents. admittedly, i experienced the same in the beginning when I transfered from Win98 to Xp as well, but far from in the same magnitude that it be the case with Windows Vista. I have been a regular user of the Windows OS ever since the 2.0 back in 1989, i may still have the program somewhere in my library. I have utilized every single version since then and I note the Improvements in the development with 3 exemptions. a. Windows 2000, which was NOT for Domestic Usage in the first place, too complicated to configure,
b. Windows ME, which by the way was the WORST product I ever encountered.
c. Windows Vista ...

b. i noticed that the machine is available in a LINUX version too, but I'll suggest that, unless you are Computer Savvy, and know what you are doing, try to avoid that. Nothing against the Linux OS as of such, it is a good OS, very limited Resource requirement and all, but as it is NOT a mainstream OS, it is not always the best of choice. plus the physical configuration of the system is inferior compared to the Windows XP Units.

c. by what i can see from others reviews, McAffee seems to be causing a disruption in the WiFi setup. as a technocrat, i'll say, thou McAffee used to be an outstanding product, it has lately been known to cause configuration problems as it automatically activates the "Firewall" which by default limits the access from the unit in question to any external system on a network, either a local LAN or the internet in general. i haven't tried this unit myself yet, but i know of this situation because i have a domestic network of 7 laptops and 3 desktops set up in my home. my suggestion be ... try see if you can find an alternative to the McAffee, or use a local Anti Virus protection product instead of the Network versions. that should do the trick.

HARDWARE CONFIGURATIONS :
Input / Output Controllers : let everybody remember that it is a tiny unit,
a. < 9 inch display ... not really what you would use in prolonged durations at a time. Maybe it is not fair to say, because most portable Entertainment units have smaller displays than this. but all the same.
b. people seem to have problem using the keyboard, saying it is small, but then the entire unit is. That is a limitation that sort of comes with the concept.
c. as for the trackball, i understand the difficulty that people experience. It is always difficult to use something that's constructed differently compared to what one is used to.
for all three things there is always the option that you can attach an external unit (CTR, Keyboard and/or Mouse). maybe you should consider it, but it sort of kills the entire concept of ULTRA PORTABLE unit.

UPGRADEABILITY : the upgradability of the unit is very Limited ... but that is a general rule when you go for a portable unit, you, by default, sacrifice the Upgradability for the Portability. It comes with 1GB RAM, and I am to understand that it can be upgraded to 1.5GB. but the thing is that the user will have to split the entire system totally just to be able to perform that Upgrade. Now here is the thing. An increase of 50% more RAM is not really going to give any noticeable difference, so it is up to the user to decide if it is really worth the efforts and not to mention the risk factor. Being an electronic device, there is always the probability of something going wrong (Murphy's Law). And given the circumstance that you, by choice, fiddled with the internal configuration of the system, the possibility of the Warranty being voided is very high.

STORAGE MEMORY : this particular Model ships with a 160GB HDD. To my opinion, this is more than enough for any regular user. Lets say 5GB for the Operating System and drivers, another 5GB for the office software, 10GB for misc. 'on the road' products, it still leaves about 120 GB for User Data. (Taken into account that a 160GB HDD when formatted and configured actually only have a capacity of 142GB). Given an average document be of 5MB (one full of pictures and all), there should be room enough to store about 30000 documents on the system without any problem... (almost 10 copies of Encyclopedia Britannica in its full) and to be honest ... how many people actually need to carry that many documents around?. Again, it is possible to upgrade the Hard disk to one with larger capacity, but again, in order to do so, the entire system has to be split into pieces. A decision only the ultimate user can take.

BATTERY : the Battery capacity is advertised to be 6 hrs (actual 3.5 to 5 depending on NATURE of Usage). that is perfect, given it be true. on the road, it is seldom that you be walking on the street and using your computer at the same time... in reality, you use it in your car, or at your local Starbuck... and there is always a way to connect it to a power source at both places ... (at star buck... all you need to do is ask NICELY, and they will let you use an outlet while you consuming your coffee or tea or cappuccino). If your means of transportation is the PUBLIC Transport, i have hard to imagine that your daily commute be more than 5 hours each way.
Air Travel does provide external Power source as well. you just have to get hold of a proper Power Adapter / converter, usually available at any electronics outlets for about $30 to $50.

FAN NOISE : as for the `fan noise' thing, which i notice a lot of people mentioning... you must have a very sensitive hearing sense to be able to notice it. let it be clear that the fan is a physical piece of plastic rotating at high speed, so it is bound to make some noise, there is no way around that fact. the speed of the fan is adjusted automatically by the system based on the temperature of the unit. it will run slower when the unit is cold and the speed will increase with the change in temperature of the unit. just a suggestion be ... check the ventilation of the system, make sure the exhaust vent, normally on the bottom of the unit, is free. if the noise still exhibits to be too high, check the vent for dust abstractions. it is to be noted that the computer does not produce any coolant of its own, but use the air available in the environment to do the cooling. it is just an observation, but the air carries lots of impurities, thou not visible to the bare eye. Over the passage of time, these particles accumulate in the ventilator, causing either obstructions in the fans movement or the exhaust properties thereof. Now the fan has to move harder to keep the unit cold enough. as a thumbs rule, just like you clean everything else that you have now and then, regular clean up of the system could be a good idea as well. it does not require any technical know how, just use a condensed air blower, available all over the place for $5 or less, blow the vent, that should do the trick. and a canister should be able to last for about 6 months. not a bad investment ($1/month) compared to a complete melt down that will render your entire investment of (for this unit) $400 worthless. and make no mistake, no warranty, manufacturer or otherwise, will cover you in that case, because it is what is classified as "Abusive Use" or "Wear & Tear" (both Exemptions from any coverage, specified in the microscopic print on your Insurance/warranty Policies, feel free to check it out).

AUDIO OUTPUT : for the speaker not giving a proper sound. sure enough, as mentioned by other users, what can you expect from speakers in the size of a DIME. then again, it is a Portable unit, meaning you will be using it "on the go" so to speak. my suggestion be USE some headphones instead, it will channel the sound perfectly for your hearing and it will not disturb the people in your surroundings. It will be for the benefit of everyone concerned. Just consider these scenarios : you be traveling down the Hudson in the Metro, you are sitting doing your thing and someone walks up to you and ask you to turn down the volume because the sound is disturbing their chain of thoughts. OR you sitting and are being force to listen to someone else's conversation on the phone or otherwise, merely because their voice is too loud for the environment.
if you have ever experienced either situation, you will know what i am talking about. Common courtesy dictates that you should have consideration for your environment, if for no other reason, then just to avoid the awkward situation of someone else having to tell you so.
i am not saying you should get one of those $1000 'noise cancelation' headphones, the $10 one from your local corner store would be just fine. i can't figure the sense in spending a thousand dollars on customized headphones in the first place, because even if you rip 10 of the regular ones in a year, it is still less than the $1000 for the specials, and trust me, no matter how carefully you treat them, they seldom last you more than a year.

CONCLUSION :
I do realize that it may not be a 'CREM de la Crem' unit. but for the price ... it is a VERY proper unit. People have a tendency to expect more and more for less and less monies. Surely in due time it will be so, but currently, while the concept of Netbook is comparatively NEW, if you desire to be "On the Wagon", so to speak, you will have to sacrifice some of your demands. this is one thing I have noted about the reviews that people post. they always have the idea that they should get more for their monies, and its fair to assume that, but then there is just one thing i don't understand. they want a ultra portable unit with a 50" display and king size Input controllers. that just don't make any sense. the golden rule is "you want more, gonna cost more" or you wait a couple of years, and it be for the current price. i can give you a example. currently, my Palm Lifedrive has 4GB HDD, it cost me $400. It had about 400 times the capacity of my first laptop (10MB) which had cost me bout $4000 at that time. I can elaborate this theory with the following example.
my Dell has 512MB/40 GB, it cost about $ 800 at the time, My HP has 1GB/80GB, but it cost me $1500, and the Sony 1GB/120GB, but with a price tag of $2300. i used to have a Mac back in the days, beautiful unit and outstanding performance. i have to say Mac Computers are the most beautiful units one can come across, but there is one MAJOR drawback with the Mac machines and that's the PRICE TAG. But if the money is no object, get a Mac, you won't regret it. (Well maybe when you want to install a program, cuz it is very limited in availability and hence beautiful Price Tag).

there seem to be a few people who are dissatisfied with their machine. stating that it is DOA or Crash after short time. i will be the first to admit that with electronics, there is always the possibility that something can go wrong. thou the chances are very slim, it does exist. that's what 'Murphy's Law' is all about. This is where i suggest that you get yours from a 'RELIABLE' source. Amazon.com is always a GOOD choice, because they are always willing to help the customer out to their best ability. I have been a customer at Amazon for the last 10+ years. i'll give them a 6 out of 5 stars for their customer service. my experience have proved to me that they attempt their best to satisfy the customer. when it comes to Amazon, thou they not Perfect, one can't expect anyone to be, their customer service, both in response as well as solution of the situation has been noted to be outstanding in terms of Promptness and suggestions.
As far as the source is concerned, I suggest you get it DIRECTLY from Amazon, rather than the additional stores that may be available through Amazon. I'm not saying it always be the case, but third party sellers have so many clauses and hidden terms that if a problem should arise, (Murphy's Law) they frequently comes up with so many different excuses not to help out the customer, (Time span, coverage, advertised terms, general practice etc).
so I say, even if it be a few $$$ more, it is worth it, if for nothing else, then just for the peace of mind.

for the prospective customers, who are in the market for a unit like this, and is yet unsure I would suggest that you take a small trip to your local Electronic store (Circuit City, Best Buy, Walmart, Staples, Target all carry these units, or the smaller model) and try out the unit, just to get the feel of it, so that you can evaluate whether or not it is what you are looking for, and in the process, if you happen to find it for a better NET price, thou I doubt it be the case, by all means get it from there. When I say net price, it be final amount that you pay for the unit, TAX and Shipping included.
Me and my Hon saw the unit at our local Target couple of weeks ago, and she loved it, especially because of the size. She wanted it right there and then. $350 + tax for the 120 GB / 3 cell model. I am getting her the superior model instead. As it is a gift for her, I don't want her to know that I got it for her already. she still think I am just looking. i know she is going to be happy for it. I have even gone to the trouble of acquiring some extra accessories for it, such as a spare battery, 10" bag, auto mount and charger for Honey's Altima, but most likely what she is gonna love the most is the CUSTOMIZED SKIN, with name and picture.

I'm always on the lookout for an extremely light weight small laptop that is 1)affordable 2) under 3 lbs 3) has decent battery life, and 4) sufficient hard drive memory. Thought it was impossible. I had a 3 lb sharp from when they made computers, that actually did include a dvd drive, but it had a tiny hard drive that was obsolete for today's applications. Most little computers were outrageously expensive, or still had relatively scanty hard drives, and the latter problem includes those relatively inexpensive ones from the big computer companies. This one has everything, except for dvd drive, but you can get a cheap mini one at micro center for the twice a year at least I need to download something from a dvd. Otherwise this is terrific, and has surprisingly speedy performance. Wifi worked out of the box quickly too. Being a small person is finally paying off, since it is possible someone with large hands might have issues with the key board, but my child size hands are just fine. That's really only the down side I can think of. Obviously, you wouldn't opt to have this as your only computer, unless you're someone who is hiking across country, but as a full menu computer that you can toss and take with you, you won't do better unless you're willing to spend about 7x as much money. PS-It also takes all different kinds of media cards, unlike my other computers. And, unlike some light weight computers, its power source is also remarkably light, so you don't end up with a light computer but a power source that weighs you down. It has generous ports, etc. Before I got it, I had read some complaints about the mouse pad, and was worried about it before I got the computer. Any one who complained has never experienced just how awful laptop mouse pads/balls can be. This one feels sturdier and more responsive than many I'ved suffered through-and I actually don't feel a need to substitute a remote mouse.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

First of all, prior to buying this laptop, I only looked at the stats. The selling points for me was the large hard drive, and the extremely light weight. Aside from the identical stats, like the Atom processor and the RAM, and 6 cell battery, the HHD and weight were the very reason I bought this laptop over the Asus HA's ans MSi Wind. However, after I purchased it, I started getting scared for several reasons after looking at actual older reviews.

Problems with a loud fan noise.
WiFi problems (worried me the most.)
Battery sticking out a LOT.

So I started regretting buying it, looking at as many good reviews as I could to change my mind.

However, after it arrived, my expectations were exceeded. The fan made no noise at all, except under some load it makes a small whirring noise. I downloaded the temperature program (because temperatures exceed the norms for no reason) and it never made a sound again.

WiFi worked perfectly. Perhaps they fixed the WiFi problems in the newer Acer Aspire One's, with updated Bios and software. I assume that any new model will have great working WiFi. When I fiddled with some networking components in the add custom software tab in the add/remove programs, and deleted the Touch Point software that came with the unit, the WiFi didn't work for me on the first day. I couldn't connect. After a eRestore (software comes with the netbook) it worked perfectly. My guess was that the Touch Point software affected my WiFi somehow, so I would not touch that as it controls the keyboard hotkeys (e.g. fn+5 for sound mute).

After looking at pictures of the "HUGE" 6 cell battery I was concerned because the aesthetics was something that drew me to this laptop. However, when seen in real life, the battery does not look big at all. I don't know if the pictures add 3-4 inches on it, but the battery looks as if it's apart of the netbook. It's ridiculous how big the pictures make the battery look. After instant evaluation, it complemented the netbook perfectly.

Performance is great as expected, hard drive space is large. Haven't had any problems at all with the laptop. When a lot of programs are run over a period of time, the bottom gets slightly warm, which is a part of all Intel Atom chipsets on all netbooks. So that is something to expect. It comes up slightly warm rarely so I'm not going to put a lot of emphasis on it.

Overall great netbook, great look. Got mine in white and love how it looks!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Right now

I have owned the Acer one laptop for about two months now. It has almost become my primary machine. I use it for everything. I am amazed at the resources provided in such a small package. I carry it everywhere I go.

I bought this laptop after reviewing all the minilaptops that are currently available, and I am glad I waited. I think this is the minimum usable size for a subcompact computer. Acer really got it right, by adding a larger hard drive and a microphone and camera.

I have not found that that speed of operation has been a problem. This has been to my surprise. I think Acer owns this market.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

The battery life, screen quality, keyboard, and overall finish quality make this a great product. I've used it for several weeks now and only have one complaint: the touchpad buttons are too small. I've substituted a wireless mouse and it really completes the package. I highly recommend buying one if you're going to use this netbook on a table or mouse-friendly surface. I bought this netbook to webcam with my family while traveling and for the last month it has worked out great. Wireless internet is simple to use. Battery life is better than most laptops. Keyboard is good enough to type on even for people with big hands. Startup/shutdown times are very quick...less than a minute.

Only real con is that i think people with bad eyes might find themselves squinting because of the small screen size.

All in all, this netbook exceeded my expectations and i would recommend it to others.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Excellent for anyone who would like to have a powerful laptop at a very easy to carry and remarkable price. The small screen is easy to get used to. You may adjust the page size and of course their is a magnifier when needed. But I find that with the correct page size, the 8.9 inch screen is no problem. The 6 cell battery holds a charge for more than 5 hours, which is really a plus. Excellent for travel (buy the pocketed carry case (offered through Amazon affiliate) or just away from your desktop (kitchen, bed, etc.); very convenient Besides, we all know that Acer makes a fine product. Buying Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

Where to start this review is the question, because I have a LOT to say about it, so I guess I'll begin by saying, repeating rather, my synopsis: the Acer One 1.6Ghz/1GB/160GB/6-Cell 5700mAh battery feature set gives Acer by far the best, finest, and most versatile, best-performing Netbook being made right now, and that includes a LOT of other netbooks from HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, et al, all of them included! That's a big, long sentence, with a lot of BANG to it, so let's start with the interface and go from there.

Acer decided to use Windows XP Home Premium 32-bit for the OS for the Acer One, in all configurations apparently, and they couldn't have been more right-on, spot-on in fact, in this choice. It's pretty much fix-me-free by now, with SP3 installed, extremely well sorted-out, trouble and maintenance free, and most of all, it's fast-booting and takes little overhead from the 1GB of physical RAM that comes in this configuration, with the 160GB SATA II Western Digital (in my case) hard drive.

I heartily recommend one PC program for maintenance of the Windows Registry, and it's called simply "Registry Mechanic" which you can get over at CNET's site, as they give it "5 Turcows" rating, the highest they give utility software suites, and if you use Registry Mechanic on a regular basis, certainly after adding/removing any programs, you'll be 99% to the good in XP Home Premium SP3!

I am writing this review from an expert's point of view, trying to not get too technical for all you readers, honestly I am and will do my best there. I'm a certified Mac/Apple Tech, and though I am not an MSC Microsoft Certified Tech at this point, I can pretty much rip apart, fix/repair, and troubleshoot any OS problem on a PC also, including a tech's worst nightmare, 64-bit Vista problems!

To give just a couple examples of how nice Windows XP Home Premium SP3 works out on this little netbook would help, so let's give some. The Acer One boots up in less than 30 seconds from a cold start, and from sleep/hibernation less than 15 seconds, which is sort of miraculous considering all the potential traps, and other obstacles most Windows computers stick in the way of a fast boot process. It also does a nice job of handling multiple programs on a mere 1GB of physical RAM, which would be literally impossible, ludicrously so if it happened to be running any iteration of Vista!

Acer also ships the One with a minimum of indigenous proprietary software, very little eye candy or "brand candy" either, a nice touch, pretty much limiting that stuff to an Acer "screen saver" program, and the MacAffee Anti-Virus program, which can be quickly and judiciously dispensed with using XP's default "Add/Install Programs" application. This is a major coup for the Acer consumer, and shows good judgment on their product team's part, as we don't have to remove a trial copy of Norton Systemworks, for example, which humbles most computers of any sort with its crazy, stupid, and offensive (!) so-called "integration" into virtually all edgemarks of Windows Vista or XP systems. It's my favorite "I Hate You" program to knock and warn users against having in their PC's of any type, and will tell those of you using it now for no fault of your own probably, that your notebook/PC desktop's performance will increase by a factor of at least 50% if you REMOVE IT from the computer right now, and install something that makes sense in terms of virus, spyware, adware, and a firewall of some sort...something like Trend Micro's Internet Security program, or maybe AVG for those on a budget. Just anything other than the Norton product/program is a good thing to have in the tank, just a fyi and I'm done with the warning bit.

So, the OS is an xlnt choice here, I mean for a little netbook you don't even need XP Pro, just this simple XP Home Premium does fine in this setup, thus Acer earns bonus points for that, a most important item to congratulate them on doing, noteworthy enough to make it the No.1 item I mention in this review.

Acer does give the user a "trial copy" of MS Office 2007 for those who need a WP program, a convenient thing and not a bad choice, but personally I prefer Office 2000 Professional, which I've been using in PC's I own for some 7-8 years now, so I dispensed with the 2007 version, and installed my own Office Pro 2000 suite and took care of those needs. Other than the MacAfee Anti-Virus problem/program, there's little else to mention that you have to get rid of right off the bat to streamline, smooth, and speed up the netbook's OS and responsiveness, so kudos to Acer for not burdening the new owner with a ton of BS and crapola as I like to call a manufacturer's eye candy and "freebies" which are always more trouble than a benefit in PC's, it turns out.

With a Mac everything you get is functional and virtually necessary for the machine's processing and program inventory, while with PC's they're always trying to sell you something, clutter up the OS with virtual garbage of one sort or another, so Acer really earns my praise here by not trying to give the user anything except a nice, fast, virtually ready for market netbook instead of a major project, one that needs a lot of coaxing and prior-feeding to make it perform normally, or shall I say exceptionally well versus being a slug in the rug.

The best place to start praise for this netbook in my view is with the hardware choices that Acer made for this little machine, because there are certainly plenty of choices on the PC side to start out with, and they did an exceptional job with the One, choosing everything with care, simplicity, and xlnt performance in mind. First there's the Intel Atom N270 CPU, the heart of the beast so to speak, and at 1.6Ghz with 533Mhz PC SDRAM along for the ride, the netbook is plenty fast, has a quick, but inexpensive memory ramp-up feature set, another good choice by the maker.

The CPU uses an incredible 10% (yes, read it and remember it) of the potential energy outlay for a comparable AMD, or Intel C2Duo CPU chip/die set, which does two things you should remember: 1) it has very little overhead in terms of battery use, and 2) it generates few heat management problems, which everyone should know and understand is the heart of most notebook/netbook problems. HEAT KILLS CPU's AND NOTEBOOKs, it's just that simple to write or say, and the Intel Atom N270 is a miracle of design and functionality that does what many CPU's would kill or die for, which they'll never have, and that's provide a modicum of speed with virtually no footprint of heat, or battery drain! Isn't that a treat!! I think so, so another xlnt choice by Acer there.

The hardware features a fast 5400RPM SATA II 2.5" 160GB hard drive, which should be plenty large enough for even the most rampant physical space user, and it's best to note that here 2nd. The SDRAM @ 533Mhz works well with the equally fast system bus, so tasks are handled well even though there's only 1GB of physical RAM.

The only shortcoming here is that RAM, as it's NOT user serviceable/accessible, with an Intel netbook chassis design that will allow a maximum of 1.5GB of physical RAM addressable, so even if you want to void your warranty and take it apart and install a 1GB DIMM in that single SDRAM slot (512MB being hard-soldered onto the chassis, and not removable) , to yield 1.5GB of SDRAM, the benefits are questionable.

I would like to, at some point, try out a 2GB DIMM in that slot, and see if the netbook functions and addresses 2.5GB of SDRAM as that would make a lot more sense in terms of increasing the available physical RAM allocation, so when I get in the mood later this month with a weekend-extended off, I'll take an hour or two to do that exercise, and if successful I'll update this review accordingly!

Let's talk for a minute about the netbooks' Wi-Fi (for better words) concepts, and see how it works in practice vs. theory right now. The most important aspect of these netbooks that are out now is the connectivity issue(s), because certainly everyone expects one to work wirelessly out of the box! And so it is with the Acer One's setup.

The network adapter is an Atheros AR5007EG "A, B & G" (notice, no "N" availability) unit, and it's got a simple physical switch on the front of the netbook for turning it off and on, and I might mention that it's switched "ON" at the factory, so the moment you fire up the Acer One it's going to be searching for a wireless network, and will find one/them quickly... that is it will hierarchically list them in order of strength and logical importance in the Network Control Panel without you prompting it to do so. That's a nice feature, and Acer scores points here also.

If you're using a typical user's WPA-TKIP network encryption vs an "open" or unprotected network at home/office, you'll be prompted for the password once the notebook is fired up past the User Configuration Screens of XP Home Premium, and once that password is entered check the box for "remember me", and you're set as far as connecting to your local wireless network from then on. On a scale of 1-10 for connectivity, I'm giving the Atheros network adapter a solid 9 for performance, if you wondered about it. It picked up not only my network here at my home office, which includes 8 other Macs and PC's of various sorts, but it also scored my 3 neighbors' networks also, without any problems.

So Acer's placement and structure of the physical part of the adapter is good also, ie the "antenna" is routed through the little chassis strategically, apparently (I have yet to discover it by taking it apart, but will soon!), and it's a strong network performer, which is essential in a notebook/netbook.

I haven't taken the Acer One on an outside trip yet, though we will definitely be using it for travel instead of my tried (read tired also) and true Apple iBook G3, vintage 2002 @ 600Mhz G3 territory with a 12" screen vs. the Acer One's 8.9" widescreen LCD display, so I can't comment on its ability to pick up outside Wi-Fi 'HotSpots' but I'll betcha it's just fine in that regard.

Now we come to the details, and they are the best and most fun parts of the Acer One, so here goes...

The 3 USB 2.0 ports are a killer connectivity system (ie very very good!), with twins on the right side of the chassis, and a single on the left side, along with an Ethernet port, plus a VGA portal for extended desktop duty, since the Intel Mobile 945 Express graphics chip will support an external monitor, a very nice feature if you want to do a presentation with PowerPoint via a large VGA LCD display, or perhaps hook it up to a larger screen for a slide show at work, or for friends and family during the holidays! Very versatile feature set here!!

Also of import are the twin card reader slots, the left side being the one for an SD/SDHC card (yup, it WILL read SDHC cards, no limit as to size AFAIK), the right side slot for everything else, MMC, Memory Stick Plus, etc etc...just no CompactCards that's about all it doesn't provide for, so you Nikon/Canon folks will have to use an adapter and make do with that! As for the network switch setup, the switch is on the front, but the LED is on the top surface where the keyboard is, so nicely done, Acer.

The power port for the AC adapter is on the left side, and it's not an ergonomically quiescent system like Apple's "Mag-Safe" system, and you CAN rip it out of the Acer One by tripping on the cord and potentially damaging the netbook, so the usual cautions about the AC adapter apply here...it's NOT an Apple product, typical PC stuff here with the power port/battery charging mechanism. I wish PC manufacturers would learn their lessons about this intimate subject, but they don't, or won't, as I can't think of a PC notebook with a truly ergonomic AC adapter port offhand. Just be careful with this part of the Acer One, and all will be good to go!

That pretty much covers the feature set and ports, so to wrap this up I'll mention a couple other items and be done with this review in a flash, I promise!

The Synaptic Pointing Device (trackpad in AppleSpeak) is easy to master, if you're not using an externally driven laser/USB mini-mouse like we do for pointing duty (we chose a Logitech V220 for this notebook at Amazon.com for about $25 shipped, a truly superior laser mini-mouse IMO, and one I've grown fond of for use with my "normal" Acer laptop, a bit dated, but still useful 5920-6727 15.4" widescreen GemStone Chassis unit). The trackpad has the normal right and left side clickables to it, it's infinitely adjustable for touch and speed via the Windows XP "Mice and..." control panel, and it works well without using an external USB/laser mouse, as there are times (like when laying in bed doing some late-night web surfing with the Acer One) when an external mouse is superfluous and impossible to use.

The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to to be fast on it, but fast you can be with a little adaptation, and if your hands aren't too big to make such things impossible. It's physically about 60% the size of the "normal" keyboard on a regular laptop, lacks the number system keys totally (they just aren't there), but of course has Page Up, Down, Side to Side, full function keys from F1 through F12 for controlling the boot process, initiating a file recovery or System Recovery exercise, whatever...it's all there for that sort of thing, so score more points for Acer One there!

Touch? On the keyboard, 1-10, 10 being the best possible, I'm going to give it a 7.5, because once you're acclimated to using it via its small size, the feel could be a little better IMO, there's a definite "click" and "clack" to the keyboard strokes, but of course nothing like a vane-type keyboard from the old days...just a subtle reminder that you're not using a $2000+ notebook's keyboard, and it IS a lot smaller physically than a normal keyboard, takes some getting used to for speedy typing, and judicious and deft use of your fingers lest you be constantly making mistakes.

The LCD screen, at a resolution of 1024x600 pixels (natively so) is plenty big with the widescreen aspect ratio working for the Acer One to yield a much "bigger" feel and view, with outside viewing from odd angles possible, but certainly less so than with a full sized screen. With 32-bit color quality picked (highest possible), it's clear, crisp, clean and has xlnt definition, even with the smaller fonts required (or shall I say necessary) with an 8.9" diagonal sized LCD display.

I wouldn't want to do a term paper on the Acer One, but for nominal typing and WP work, and certainly net surfing and keyboard fun, the LCD display works well. I'm giving the Acer One a solid 9 out of 10 score for the display, which is by the way, nicely set off, and back from the edges of the frame, but not too distantly so, which is a good way or designing in some protection for the display, while still leaving plenty of room for the ports of a WebCam and a mono microphone, the Acer "Crystal Brite" ("Crystal Eye" Webcam!) technology setup, standard fare in their products if you're at all familiar with how Acer makes a laptop.

The webcam and microphone do work great, of course, as you would expect them to, but I wouldn't want to use any pictures taken with the little webcam for Photoshop work, for example. It's plenty good for local use and net use, and I've used it for conferencing with Skype, and Yahoo Messenger clients with successful results in both cases.

Finally, there's the incredible performance of the 6-cell battery with this netbook's Intel Atom CPU, and it yields up to 5-6+ hours or MORE time on the machine, if you maximize Energy Saver settings, allow CPU cycling, etc etc, and really squeeze out the last drop from the tank. I was totally and completely surprised when I installed my favorite PC laptop battery monitor system on the Acer One, Embtech's EmBatPower utility, and found out that the Lithium Ion 6-cell battery has 5700+ mAh of power reserve built in! WOW! That's a big battery for even a normal laptop! And in the Acer One it just kills any competition in the "last a long time" department!!

The Acer One scores 11 on battery performance, OFFSCALE TOTALLY!! You just can't buy a more CPU efficient, long lasting battery/laptop/netbook battery system than the 6-cell system in the Acer One. It's the meat and potatoes of all battery systems I've even come across, and I've seen a few that claimed to have 5-6-hour capacity, but never delivered. THIS ONE DOES!!

Construction yields a solid 9.5 on the Acer One, as the netbook's LCD screen hinge system is very heavy-duty, and should last a long long time even with severe/heavy use, has a nice "feel" to it in terms of being strong and viable, it's not a weak point of the netbook where with others it can be and is a weakness. The materials for a sub-$500 netbook are supreme, the feature set is almost if not perfect (only lacks FireWire, if you care to be ultra-critical about this sort of thing!), it just seems to "all be there" with the Acer One netbook.

Overall, I'm giving the Acer One 5 stars, or 10 out of 10 if you want the extended version of a rating, for overall performance, feature set, battery performance/life, construction, and that xlnt Crystal Brite Acer 8.9" LCD widescreen display with its 1024x600 pixel size. I like everything about the Acer One, especially the sub-$400 pricing that's available at certain places on the 'Net these days, for this particular configuration, the top of the line now.

Have I covered everything? Geez, I hope so! The only thing I haven't mentioned is the light weight, being 894 grams if you're counting it that way, no battery, or 1223 grams WITH the 6-cell battery in place...still well South of 3 pounds! Trust me, that's its accurate weight, as I just used my xlnt Radio Shack USB Scale on the Acer One, and double and triple checked how much it weighs.

I can't tell you how impressive this netbook is, and it's obvious why it's the No.1 selling computer of ANY TYPE OR KIND at Amazon.com right now, why it's stealing business from every quarter of the market. Acer can hardly keep up production to supply the demand for the darn thing, it's so popular right now! So if you want it all, "the works" in a netbook, there is no substitute: get the Acer One in this configuration, with the 6-cell battery, the 160GB SATA II hard drive, 1GB SDRAM, and all those standard features that are killing the competition.

From a tech's viewpoint this is a great system to be able to service, it's a simple one to take apart and get to the important pieces (don't tell Acer I said that just yet!), and the 'modular' chassis gets a "10" too! From the consumer's viewpoint there is no finer bargain in the marketplace than the Acer One "LU.S050B.133", Model ZG5, configuration (the one off the product's box).

I've written a LOT of reviews over the years for various computer systems and products, but I cannot emphasize enough how good a product this is, especially compared to all the rest of the netbooks out there for sale.

The Acer One ZG5 is the No.1 selling computer of ANY SIZE, TYPE, or CONFIGURATION in the world right now, and there's a good reason why. Acer did their homework, found all the right pieces to the puzzle the consumer wanted in a netbook, and here's the result! Get one now, or get one ASAP, because you're missing out on all the fun, all the goodness anyone could have possibly built into a netbook in the year 2008-9.

I predict that Acer will keep making these bulletproof little market-killers until the sun stops shining in the West and its competition is crushed even further than it already is. Good Luck to HP, Toshiba, Dell, the whole lot of you other PC manufacturers, because this is the King of the Hill, and you'd best get used to looking up at the new No.1 computer maker in the world, Acer and the Acer One!

ADDENDUM 01-20-2009:

I was up late working on a hardware project of very complex capacities one night last month (Dec), and a thought hit me: I had 2GB (1 GB DIMMs) of Apple-Spec OEM SamSung PC 6400/800Mhz SDRAM (SODIMMs) sitting in my "extra RAM" box, right next to my workstation's chair where I sit at the controls of 2 PC's, a Dual Core G5 PowerMac 2.3Ghz running a FirmTek SeriTek 2eEN4 RAID 0 configuration (bootable RAID), and my trusty 24" Intel 3.06Ghz iMac, which is my main photo editor. Interesting thought!

So I decided to tear the little Acer One apart right then and there, at 4AM or so, and put on my grounding cable system, plugged myself into the wall socket (literally, that's how it works!) to complete the anti-static treatment, found my trusty jeweler's mini-screw-driver and TORX sets, and set them next to me, and in about 10 minutes I had carefully, quickly taken the One apart down to the logic board, bare as a naked lady, ribbon cables for the trackpad, LCD display, and keyboard carefully taped down where they could do no harm. I pulled the 512MB SODIMM out of its carrier on the underside of the double-tiered logic board setup, carefully measured it with a micro-micrometer, measured the Apple 1GB SODIMM, and it was a match! I had already looked up the specs of the Acer SODIMM I had removed, and its registry and buffers were compatible with the Apple SODIMM, so in it went! Snap! The carrier accepted the Apple RAM easily, and I had the netbook back together in about 20 minutes, taking my time and not over-torquing the mini-screws on the chassis, especially those connecting into ABS plastic!

If you're careful, ground yourself 120% before you start working, and do NOT get up and move around while you're working to generate any static electricity, and DO NOT DROP components onto each other, or hard surfaces, you too can do the above exercise in a few short minutes. It's really not too hard, nothing complex about it, just BE CAREFUL with those 25 or so mini-screws you've got to remove, draw pictures if necessary about which ones go where when you disassemble the One, so you'll remember where they all fit when you re-assemble it.

Cute netbook though! And easy easy easy to take apart, and get to the important things, mainly the RAM and the hard drive, should you ever want to replace the OEM HD with something larger, say a Samsung F1 Spinpoint H6 500GB SATA II 2.5" HD, which I'll do next to the Acer One...

Anyway, the good news: it all worked out just great. The Acer One *LIKES* the Apple DIMM a lot, and is performing extremely well with the higher-clocked SODIMM installed. 1.5GB of RAM is a huge improvement over 1GB of RAM in the Acer One, as you're increasing the physical RAM by 50%, so expect BIG performance increases, faster boot times, more application-friendly OS windows for multiple-program-open situations, etc etc.

I have found that the One cannot address a 2GB DIMM under any circumstances, so don't try it if you were thinking about it...

The logic board's BIOS just is not able to deal with the high bandwidth a 2GB DIMM would generate, so until and/if Acer decides to use a different BIOS arrangement on the logic board, 1.5GB is the limit on RAM in the Aspire One netbook series.

Once more however, I will warn those of you who have never taken apart a laptop to be very cautious, and careful, and deliberate, and operate in S L O W M O T I O N when you are doing this installation...just use common sense, keep track of those mini-screws, one by one if necessary with a diagram drawn as to where they all go, because some ARE different than others, and you must re-assemble the One with the correct screws in the correct sequence, or there will be problems, and we don't want that do we?

I simply wanted to update this Review with the news that 1.5GB of physical RAM in the Acer One is a good thing to have, and if you know what you are doing, you are NOT limited to using a 533Mhz SODIMM of PC 5300 SDRAM. If the buffers, timing, and registry sequences are good to go with a PC 6400 800Mhz SODIMM, it will work in the Acer One, certainly at least as good as with a PC 5300 533Mhz SODIMM. That's just a FYI should you happen to have any Apple-spec 1GB DIMMs laying around from an update/upgrade to an Intel iMac, Mac Mini, or MacBook of a certain vintage, as those type of 1GB DIMMs will work perfectly fine in the Acer One, and I shall testify accordingly if asked about it!

I don't know if there are any actual benefits to running higher-clocked SODIMMs in the Acer One's logic board/chassis arrangement, but what the hey, I have proved it possible to use higher-spec'd SODIMMs in the Acer One with success, my One using that SODIMM for some 5 weeks and counting now.

You know what, tech work is pretty interesting some times, and this is one of them...I got to use some spare parts that were sitting around here doing nothing at all, and I got to save a little $$$ in the deal too...

Enjoy your Acer One, and remember one thing about this Acer product that IS important: it is apparently very "flexible" and easy to work with in terms of upgrading/updating the components inside the box. Be very, very careful should any of you attempt this exercise, use a correct guide/instruction set from a reliable source, specifically on the netbook you own...as there ARE differences between the different models of the Acer One netbook, difference INSIDE of the chassis that could throw you a curve ball if you're not acting wisely.

Easy to use (Windows XP) and easy to set up. This computer is very simple, not too powerful with a magnificent battery life that has given me over 6 hours with the larger six cell battery included in this deal from amazon. I use this computer for school, its small and easy to carry and great for taking notes; the keyboard is 90percent so it is smaller then usual but not bad to get used to. Great product, would recomend as a second computer or a computer for someone who does not need much power.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Purchase Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White

I researched all of the netbooks available including Asus, HP, and Dell but found that the Acer Aspire One was both aesthetically pleasing and worked for everyone who wanted a small computer for light word processing, browsing the internet, and for travel. I was not disappointed in this netbook at all from its long battery life (6 1/2 hours!) to its great display, the keyboard which feels almost like a full size one with no hitches, and smooth operations without any lag. Windows XP runs great and the webcam works perfectly if you try it with Google Chat. I was more than happy with my purchase and am encouraging my boyfriend and others to get it too. It's been almost a week now since I've received it and I think that I got a great deal in comparison to prices for other netbooks out there. I still can't believe they can sell this much computer for 400 bucks. I kind of expected it to be a fun "toy" computer, but it does it all. Huge Plus: XP instead of that stinker Vista. There is nothing I don't love about this 6cell Acer. I wear XL gloves where I work, and I seem to get along fine with touch-typing on the keyboard. After a few minutes I was just typing away at my usual speed (I won't state my WPM so as not to seem like I'm bragging)...let's just say I ran a teletype service in the military for many years, and I helped finance my college degree by typing term papers for 3bucks a page.
What do I love to do with this ACER?
--drag and drop tons of TV shows (from my PC windows media 2005) and watch 'em where/when I want, sans ads.
--use the internet at work, without being monitored/threatened by the man.
--a mobile daily backup for digital xrays,..this really is a killer application for my profession (dental practice manager)
--if you like, say, adult movies,..this is a great get-away machine. (not that I have right hand, er, first hand knowledge of this feature)
--if you are managing dental practices, this computer will be your most bestest friend. With Google Calendar I can make and check appointments anywhere. Try to do that with IPhone and you'll go blind or crash your Beemer. (of course, if you use the previously listed feature, you may go blind or crash your Beemer anyway)
--and Mostly what I love to do with my 8.9 inch ACER? Coming up with dozens of new ways to incorporate this feisty little CPU into my busy life,..Everytime I turn around there's something I can do better and/or funner with this "toy".
--the 6cell battery life is excellent. Excellent! It kills my 2400 dollar Toshiba Satellite. And, Bonus: no more burned knees. The CPU runs so cool it's weird,..like watching a Prius pull into a parking lot with no engine noise.
Lastly,..I saw some were complaining of fan noise. Maybe they fixed this problem? I've never noticed the fan; I can't tell if it's on or off.

Loved:
.the size
.the sleek look
.how quick it boots up for the size
.light-weight

Hated:
.wireless card

Had problems connecting to the wireless. It connected and disconnected for an hour the first time I started it up. Now it doesn't connect at all. Checked my sister and brother's new laptop and theirs connected fine. Did some research online and found out that a lot of people had wireless connectivity due to the wireless card. The only solution to fix this is to change the wireless card to an Intel but the warranty wouldn't be useful after that. So, I will be returning this. This is my 3rd laptop.

By far... the Acer beats my old notebook and tablet pc.
Its lightweight. Its great for basic usages.
A lot of storage space.
battery life's just better with a 6 cell.
keyboard is fine with me.

only wished it had 3g option installed.
glossy finish is nice... but wished acer provided free cloth to wipe it when finger prints are a plenty.
a padded case would be nice as well.

all in all i love it.
i ordered another one as a gift.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White This instant

This is a great laptop. But since it doesn't have a CD drive, and it has a tiny screen, it isn't the best choice as the only computer.
If you have a desktop or another laptop, this is a great portable addition. However, I do not suggest it as the only computer in the household.
I walk a few miles each day to school, so this is great because it doesn't cause strain on my back or shoulders. But I could not stand using the tiny screen when watching movies, playing games, or using late at night.
If you are a college or high school kid, this laptop is great. If you are someone who takes public transportation, this is a great option. But if you want to play recent games with great graphics or own only one computer, you should look for a larger more powerful laptop. (Another solution to the screen size problem is to buy a monitor and hook it up to the netbook.)
Also, don't waste money on a specialty netbook case. Just buy a portable 8.9 inch DVD player case, it works just as well and fits the extended battery on this model.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White Best Quality

Pros:
1. Very light and very compact. This makes it very comfortable while laying down versus my heavy 15.4" notebook.
2. It is very cool even when plugged in! This is the first notebook I ever used that I didn't notice any heating on my lap.
3. The battery life is amazing! I get at least five hours of charge no matter what I am doing with it.
4. The screen looks incredible! I love the brightness and resolution on it.
5. The two SD slots are very useful especially for SDIO.
6. Amazing Price!

Cons: (I'm being picky here, I really do love this notebook.)
1. The keyboard seems to be too flimsy. Just like on another notebook I've owned, the left and right areas of the keyboard bends slightly when you push a button in that area.
2. The touchpad and keyboard took some time getting used to. I had to mess with the touchpad settings in order for it to respond the way I wanted. The keyboard has a slightly awkward layout.
3. The wireless switch button seems loose.
4. It comes with software that I had to uninstall. I'd recommend removing software you wont use to maximize your performance.

Other Thoughts:
As another reviewer pointed out, this notebook isn't a good main computer unless you do a few things. The screensize is small and if I were to sit at a desk in my house, I would want a bigger monitor. This notebook has a VGA out so you can use one in this situation. There isn't a DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drive so it is difficult to install applications. If you want to use this as a main computer, I'd highly suggest you buy an external USB DVD-ROM drive. When I want to install applications from a CD or DVD, I use my main computer's DVD-ROM drive as a shared network drive.
